So i am using a small zoo med uth on my 10 gal tank. I keep a thermometer in my tank (on the surface) at all times. Its reading 85-88f. I was wondering why is it not getting hot enough say to around 90-92f??? Is it possibly because there might be too much ventilation or just not all uth heat the same or what???

Move it around a bit to see if there are hot spots. Tape some aluminum foil under the UTH (so the UTH is sandwiched between the bottom of the tank and the foil). This directs the heat upwards and can raise the temp. I had to do this for one of my tanks which just wouldn't get up high enough (ceramic tile substrate) in the winter. You can also use a wattmeter on the UTH to make sure it's putting out the correct wattage.
