Sand is bad for LEOPARD GECKOS and other non desert lizards. SOme reptiles do perfectly fine with sand, it all depends on what kind of reptile it is and where it originates from.

Let it go and go buy one from a store if you really want one. Its not nice or healthy to capture and keep animals from the wild and it messes with the environment and food chain for other animals in your area.
We have a tank with live bamboo growing and a waterfall in it, and that keeps it nice and humid and wet. So much so that we NEVER see him shed anymore. We used to catch him doing it occasionally but now its like on and right off before we ever get to see it.
