what can I use for a clean-up crew in my semi-arid enclosure?

My leopard gecko like his crickets pretty well. You think he might like dubia roaches as well or aren't they recommended? I tried mealworms but they don't move much, and he didn't recognize them as food.

I'm a new keeper. I've been feeding him 7-10 dusted crickets every other day. Should I be feeding him more often? He is about 4" long and has a voracious appetite.

for bioactive is there a reason to not use just topsoil?

I am thinking about making a bioactive enclosure out of my 20L. Should I put the heat pad on the side, back or under the 4" substrate? What is the most popular substrate?
