Can anyone explain what does this mean? 1C and 2C hypo, enigma or w&y. I know they mean dominant het and dominant hom. Also, what do i need to combine to get a 2C hypo
1 copy of the dominant gene or 2 copies of the dominant gene I beleive. You would need 2 hypos to get a 2C hypo. I could be wrong, i'm still a genetics noob!
Heterozygous and Homozygous. When using recessive traits like any of the Albinos a gecko can carry the gene without showing it. This is called Heterozygous. If the animal is an actual Albino then it is Homozygous for the gene.
1C and 2C stand for 1 copy and 2 copy and are only related to Dominant genes like Hypo and Enigma. Unlike recessive genes where you can be a carrier without showing the genetic trait, dominant genes will show the trait visually whether they are Homozygous or Heterozygous. From everything that I have read and witnessed animals that are 1 copy versus the ones that are 2 copy don't express the trait any differently. I believe this to be true even for 2 copy enigmas.
They would have to come from two hypo parents yes, but not every gecko from those parents would necessarily be two-copy. Each animal would have a 25% chance of being two-copy. The only way to then know for sure, is to test-breed your animal to a normal animal. In the case of enigmas let's say, if your supposed two-copy enigma animal's babies all hatched out as enigmas (the other parent being non-enigma) it would be a fair bet that the parent is a two-copy enigma.
