A warm hide means you have a hide that is sitting within your heat source. IE, for me, my warm hides are placed over the under tank heater, thus they are warm.

My humid hides are made out of tupperware with a hole cut into the lid or into the side (Large enough so they can comfortably enter and exit and without any sharp edges to snag the animals) and I put moss and/or paper towel in the bottom and moisten it with water (the substrate in the humid hide should not be dripping wet, mind you). I place mine humid hides on the cool side of the tank or towards the middle of the heat gradient. Leo's need a humid microclimate to aid in the shedding process. It also eliminates the need to mist the tank, which can be potentially detrimental to your Leo's health because they require low humidity most of the time.

The third hide should be a dry hide placed on the cooler side of the tank so they can go to cool off.

Hope that helped

:main_thumbsup: I agree...just one question how is misting the tank potentially detrimental to their health? i only ask because mine spends most of it's time in the moist hide

High humidity can potentially cause respiratory infections in leopard geckos. Leos are built for low humidity climates and should not be exposed to high humidity for long periods of time. What side of the tank is your moist hide on? Cool side is ideal because your Leo shouldn't be in the humid hide all the time.

It's on the cool side...he spends most of his day in there but at night he goes to the warm side under his hot hide. If humidity can be a potential problem, I don't want him to stay in there that much lol.

Letting it dry out isn't going to hurt them. When my leo's aren't shedding I only moisten it every other day or so. No problems here :)

that's good, he's only in a 10 gal setup so it dries out pretty quickly anyways. I'll start only spraying it in the mornings instead of twice a day like I've been doing. Thanks for the help.
