Hi. I've been trying to care for 2 Leopard Geckos that I raised from babys ( from pet store ) and for a while everything was ok, now i'm having problems keeping there eyes healthy. This is my 1st time with Leopard Geckos and I should of done more research from the start.

I really feel bad about this and would love if someone with experience would please adopt them. I've been feeding them Fluker's Repta-aid to keep them from getting dehydrated but I don't know how long I can do this. They just can't see food right now.

I'm located in the Tampa area of Florida and can't really travel that far. I don't know how to propperly ship these two, so local pick-up is prefered.

I will send pic's upon request, I will be watching this thread closely too so you'll get a quick reply.

Thanks for your time! Please adopt these two!

Please

I'm BUMPing this because I really want a good home for these two. There is NO FEE.

They are still very active, there tails could be fatter though. It's just there eyes are having problems shedding. This only became a problem within the last month or so. I've had them for about a year now and had dealt with this only once on one of them, and it cleared up on it's own. Now both are having the same problem and I don't know what to do.

I feel like a real jerk for not tending to them properly. They are both really nice and trusting for not being able to see well. Please even if you know someone who would like to rescue these two, tell them! They are not in danger of dying or anything, I just don't want them getting any worse.

Please consider this! I'm posting pic's later. Thank you!

Here are some pictures. The last one is my Frog Eyed gecko named Hanz.
Hanz was a rescue that I made from a friend who lost interest in him fast. He wasn't in bad condition but needed some attention. I've had him for almost 7 years now. He doesn't like being held, or even touched for that matter, but he'll watch you and doesn't mind you being close to the glass. Anyway.....

As you can see one is thinner than the other, he ( or she ) was a good eater at first and then had shed problems and couldn't see for a little while. I fed him by hand and tried to keep the humidity up a little more and it cleared up fine. Now he's having the same problem and is losing weight again.

The second one never had any problems until about a month ago and was a good eater too. As you can see her ( or his ) tail is still holding weight. But her eyes are getting worse everytime she sheds.

I feel like i'm doing this all wrong or something. I don't have a bigger tank for them currently ( 10Gal ) and I don't want them to get any worse.

Even if anyone knows any phone numbers for reptile rescue in the Tampa area, confirmed numbers, please let me know. I have had a really hard time finding any places that still existed or even an aswering machine. All dead ends so far. So please help if you can or tell me who can.

I would take them in if I could but I live in Tennessee. Mean while I can suggest some things you can do to help them out till you find a home for them. First of all get them separated. Leopard geckos don't do that well together. They could be causing injury to each other's eyes, which could cause the infections. Secondly get that bark stuff out of the tank and replace it with paper towels. The bark could be getting moldy or dusty, causing infections. Just a couple things I could think of off the top of my head. Hope you find a good home for them. And I hope I was of some help.

Thanks

I will take your advice gladly! I'll try to find another house for the other one and i'll remove the bark. Is calcium sand ok? I had some of that in there too.

Is there anything I can do about the eye shed problem or will that clear up with cleaner conditions? I have a vitamin supplement that I was dusting mealys and crickets with, with d3. Maybe mix some with the Repta-Aid?

Thank you for the advice!

Never use calcium sand. Especially with geckos with infections or other health problems. Stick with solid substrates like papertowels.

One of our leo's just recovered from eye shed problems. His eye caps came off about 2 weeks ago. I increased the humidity to about 50%, used paper towels for bedding. I also applied some aloe vera to his eye caps every other day. I would also put a couple drops of contact eye solution on them as well. I had to hand feed him, or use tongs to feed him. He had lost some weight but started gaining it pretty fast. Once his eye caps came off I kept the humidity at 50% for another week & would remove the jumping legs of the crickets & put them in a clear shallow plastic lid. I had noticed that while his eye caps were one he'd listen to the crickets as they moved around the plastic container. I fed him like this for about a week & now he is able to catch his own crickets & is gaining weight normally again.

I am very close to Tampa and would love to adopt these, however I don't think I have enough knowledge to specially care for them. I will ask around to a few friends that could take good care of them if you still have them. I just checked the date and this post is older, are these still available?
