48 day egg getting soft

I really need some opinions here. I previously posted that one of my eggs looked yellow when it was candles but that the other from the same clutch was pink and healthy. Now the good egg has began to soften and appears to be sweating. At first I thought it was from too much moisture, but none of the other eggs have any moisrue on them.

I believe that this egg has gone bad. I need to know what could have caused this. I am using perlite in an incubator that has held a constant 85.7F since the day they were laid.

Sweating can be a sign of hatching.. but it doesn't last long. If the egg has been sweating for several hours, the baby most likely stopped developing at some point and has passed away. This isn't necessarily anything you did wrong, especially if you have other good eggs without issue. Sometimes, these things just happen. But I agree, I would wait for the egg to get moldy before considering it a bad egg. If you're curious, you could open up the egg very gently (once you KNOW it's bad; i.e. moldy) and see what may have gone wrong. When this happened to us, I opened the egg to find a deformed baby, it had an extra face growing on the side of the normal face (and had three eyes), so it couldn't survive. Thank you both for posting. I checked today and the eggs had began to seep on to the pearlite. It had a reddish color and foul smell so I pulled it out and it I open and wallah... a 1" long Leo with an oversized head. I would think that this had stopped developing some time ago looking at the length of incubation and the small size.

I am really confident in my incubation so I am putting this one up to "this kind of thing happens" but I do not plan to change anything, and I will hope for the best.

My first egg of any reptile and it turns up bad. Here's to 5 more on the ground and 4 more to come and maybe more after that.
