hi i got this boa from a guy that could not take care of it any more. he told me it was a columbian boa but not a redtail. i am new to boas so i thought i would ask the question here. to me it looks like a redtail so if someone could tell me more about him that would be great. also after i got him home i got a better look at him and noticed that it looked like he had a bite on his face and is missing a part of his lip. i am putting antibiotic cream on it the best i can as he is a little nippy. does it look like it is a bite or something else? thanks for any help you can give me.

I wanna say that is a Central American Boa. But I am not 100%

His mouth is not that bad but keep up the good work. He should be fine

I'd agree with the Central American identification. My CA female looks identical.

As for his snout, looks like a big chunk was ripped out. Bleck!

thanks for the response. i did not really get i good look at him when he was offered to me i was told that he was mean and he used a hook to bag him up. him being a little nippy makes it hard to put the antibiotic cream on his nose. i hope he heals up fine though. he is a good eater so he is healthy.

As for the previous owner telling you he's a colombian but not a redtail..that might be due to the fact that some people only consider Bcc..boa constrictor constrictor (suriname, guyana, etc) to be "true" redtails. Hard to get a good size reference on it..but it looks a little big to be a pure central american bci which are generally considered dwarf-ish. Maybe an intergrade colombian X nicaraguan or something like that?
