A few questions after a week...

So I've had my gecko for a little over a week now, and I had some questions.

1) She ate 3 superworms last week (one Wednesday and two Thursday) but she hasn't eaten since then. She's also become a bit more easily agitated it seems. She was pretty laid back in the beginning...doesn't mind being held or touched. I'm wondering if she might be shedding soon.

When should I start worrying and trying different feeders, etc?

How can you tell when they are about to shed? I THINK she might be getting duller...but she's not looking too white.

Could it be that she's ovulating or something? Is there a way to tell?

2) She freaks out when my hair touches her...anyone else had a gecko that did that?

3) I use the Rhepashy Calcium and vitamins...should I still have a dish of pure Ca in there for her? I've heard with that stuff you don't need that.

4) She hasn't used her moist hide. It's a clear deli cup with moss in it...should I change it maybe? I've been spraying it everyday but it gets dry by the end of the day. Any suggestions?

Tell us more of how you have her set up. hot side temps? cold side temps? substrate? What kind of heat are you using? I wouldnt use a deli cup as a moist hide as its a little small.

Hot side I keep around 95, cool side is usually around 80-85. I keep having to change the thermostat because the temperatures around here (NH) keep fluctuating to really hot to kinda hot. I came home today and it was only around 89 on the hot side. Tile substrate. The moist hide is the plastic container that she was shipped in...so it's not really a deli cup, it's flat and round, maybe 6" in diameter and 2-3 inches tall.

I would get a tupperware container that is a little bigger. I think the ones I use is 7"wide x 10"long and 6 inches high. You can put moist paper towels, coco husk, moss. Are you using under tank heater? The other thing is to contact who you bought them from and learn a little about how they housed theirs. You can get a scale and keep running weight on it to see if its losing weight if its a female she could be ovulating too.

Contact the breeder or store and ask what it was eating. Dull could also be a sign of stress. You can tell if she is ovulating by looking on her belly, you will see what looks like a pencil eraser dot. There is a picture thread on here to show you if you search under breeding section.
