Well, it's really not funny. I was on my way to see the neurosurgeon, and was about 3 blocks from the hospital exit in the far left lane when this idiot in front of me decided to pull a u-turn in the middle of the expressway. I slammed on the brakes (thank God for ABS) and barely missed hitting him. I looked up in the rear view window, and saw the car behind me... and then I braced myself. She plowed in to the back of my Explorer. BANG!!!
We sat there in our cars for a few minutes collecting ourselves, and then I pulled over across 3 lanes to the right shoulder. She followed, and parked behind me. I was shaking so bad I stumbled getting out of the car, and we both saw each other and said, "Are you alright?" at the exact same time. There was no blood anywhere, so we looked at our vehicles. The entire front-end of her car was smashed in, and the hood was popped. The rear of my Explorer didn't look too bad, even though the bumper was damaged.
We exchanged insurance information, names, addresses, and phone numbers. She called the police, they said they do not respond to minor accidents unless a law was broken or there were serious injuries, and we were on our own. I told her I had to make my appointment at the hospital, and I would have my insurance company contact her.
Now, here's the funny part... she is a surgical nurse for the Neurosurgery Department! Go figure. I went to my appointment and got checked out for injuries, and asked if she was a nurse there. They asked, "Oh, do you know
her?" I didn't say anything except that I wanted her as my nurse! LOL!!!
I left my Explorer at the body shop for a tear-down to estimate the damage, got a ride home, and took some meds for the pain. I can hardly wait to see how I feel in the morning...
