A little worried...

So I've noticed lately that Teak is ALWAYS in his moist hide. I know they go in there when shedding but he already shed his skin the 2nd day I had him. He never comes out and only pokes his head out to eat. The moist hide is in the middle of his cage. I have a warm hide with the temps between 85 and 90 and the cool side is between 75 and 80. Should I be worried or is this normal? I use an UTH as well as a ceramic heater to help with the temps. He came with a bright light and I switched it to a black light so it wasn't so bright but now I'm reading that black lights are good for their eyes. Is that maybe the reason why he is always hiding? Any suggestions? Im worried...

Some geckos just really love their moist hide and stay in there and some on the other hand not so much...

Mine is also in there quite a bit. She will however step outside every now and then and make sure everything in her cage is where it is suppose to be.;)

Sometimes if I feel she is spending way too much time in there I will take her moist hide away during feeding time for about 30 minutes, this probably isn't something that needs to be done, it is just something I personally like to do. But more often then not she is probably just roaming around while you are sleeping. There isn't much to worry about as far as I know.

Ok cool, I feel better! I'm actually watching him now hunt down his food (crickets!) He is sitting on top of his moist hide slowly wagging his tail...pretty cool! I'll keep an eye on him and I might do what you do, take the moist hide out during feed time and see how that goes. Thanks for the advice!

I don't think there's any need to remove the hide. Leos know their bodies better than we do. Sometimes they need to be in their humid hides, and sometimes they don't. You don't need to worry. :)

Thank you! Like I said, the previous owner never had one for him so maybe I'm spoiling him with one and he just really likes it! He was eating and now he is in his warm hide all snuggled up! So cute :)

I have one that stays in hers all night and then one who I've only seen in his once. Some just like their humid hides more than others.

My SHTCTB Baldy loves his humid hide and is in there 90% of the time with the other 10% peeking his head out of the warm dry hide waiting for food.
No need to worry if he's behaving, eating, and pooping normally. In fact I feel better knowing my gecko loves that hide so much because he feels so secure in it.
Spotty, my normal morph mostly only uses the humid hide for shedding but I occasionally see him in there very briefly every now and then.
As long as you are doing everything right husbandry-wise, your gecko should move itself to a better temp/humidity level as he sees fit.

When feeding, I'll take out the cool hide just so he'll have more room to stalk and hunt then back it goes. It's never removed for an extended period of time.

Thanks! I'm definitely feeling a lot better knowing that this is normal and I have nothing to worry about! Usually after he eats, he will go into his warm hide for a bit (I'm sure the warmer temps help with his digestion) and then back into the moist hide he goes. I'll probably try taking his moist hide out when he eats so he can have more room like you do...we will see how it goes! Thanks again for all the advice!
