My new female that arrived last week came with a purple-ish bruise looking spot right above her vent. I do not think this is her natural color, her entire underside is white and this area looks to be sore. Does anyone know what it may be from???

First of all, if you got her from a breeder, notify them and send pictures.

Secondly, I would consider getting her to a vet.

that definitely doesn't look normal. I would consider taking her to a herp vet asap.

Just some quick questions...

Is she housed with any other geckos?

Did you recently purchase her from a breeder?

Maybe it is an injury from shipping? Maybe it looks worse than it is but it does look like a bruise.

Contact the breeder to make sure this isnt normal for that gecko (I doesnt look normal however) Then I would either go to the vet or send pictures to your vet via email.

Thanks everyone. I just saw this today b/c no one replied after the first post I havent been on. She had a little blood come out today and I am worried about her. I am calling the vet and writing to the breeder. She is all by herself I have had her for less than one month.

Definitely get to a vet.... please report back. I wonder what that could be?? I dont think a breeder would send one like that. I'm guessing from the shipping.

Okay well we got in yesterday with an emergency appointment. The vet looked at her vent and inside as well and he determined that it is an internal injury. Her cloaca is very swollen and blood is being absorbed through the tissue which is causing the bruising. It has become highly irritated due to her passing stool through and that may be why the blood is seeping out. He has given her oral antibiotics and soother plus ointment to help it heal. I have contacted the breeder and he assures me it was acquired during shipping and even doubts that I am telling the truth because I have had her for a month now before I brought this to his attention. I have to check back with the vet on Sat. to ensure the injury is getting better or staying the same- not worsening. She is acting normal- very alert and a great appetite (for cricks anyways- picky girl) I will keep you all posted, keep us in your thoughts and thank you all for your support. :)

Bad news.. the dark area has spread, she has shed and the skin pulling has irritated the injury. I am talking to the vet tomorrow as soon as they open and we will see where to go from there. Her appetite has decreased, she wont even eat a waxworm from me :main_no: and her tail is thinning while her belly is getting wider. I think I can see eggs in her abdomen. If she ever was exposed to a male ( or kept with what was thought to be another female) she could have sustained the injury from a rough mating and she only weighs 36 grams. Her weight has gone up two grams in a few days which leads me to believe those are indeed developing eggs I see. With her weight and size, not to mention her thinning tail I dont know if she can survive passing those eggs, I hope and pray she reabsorbs them. Keep us in your thoughts
