? about using UTH or Heat Tape

I am thinking of getting one of those metal storage shelving units and using either UTH with my glass cages or putting them in plastic storage containers and using Flexwatt heat tape. Is it ok with a metal shelving unit? Sorry if this is a dumb questions I am new to this.
