Active but not eating

My enigma that came from Maurice at Sunrise Reptile as my SS gift is being a pain in the arse right now. She's in a 10g with a UTH and tile floor but refusing to eat anything. She's active as can be, often times coming out during the day to see what's going on. She hates to be handled right now but could care less if your hand is in the tank.

I know reptiles tend to not eat as much during the winter months but she's been here since December 26th and hasn't eaten a single mealworm or cricket. Her tail is still plump and it's quite obvious she was a healthy eater before she came here. Any ideas what is going on with this girl? I've seen poop twice but nothing in about two weeks.

Is she housed with other animals? What are the temps like? Are you gut loading your insects well? I usually tape construction paper around all four sides of the tank when I first get them so I don't distract them with what im doing and so they feel like the tank is one big hide. Then i'll remove some of the paper to let them look around when they are more established.

She's alone. Temps hover between 94-97F. I have drafty windows but I have my door shut to keep heat in. I'm going to tape some white paper(all I have) to all four sides to see if that helps. Insects are gut loaded.

I apologize for post-jacking Andrew, but I'm also having a similar problem. My gecko is nearly a year old and hasn't eaten anything in about two weeks except for one wax worm. There has not been a change in her habitat. Is it just the season?

:( Still no luck, huh? I would agree with the part about the covering of the sides. The problem could be stress-related. Where's her weight at? This really bugs me, cause she's been such a good eater. I don't understand.

94-97 is a little high, any chance you can lower it a tad, as for the paper around the sides thats a really good idea.

I'll have her weight by the end of this week. I had to order a new scale for everyone.

Good to hear that. I have a new female that arrived a month ago, I'm still waiting for her to start eating on her own.

I covered her hide on all sides except the one since I have white walls. She had a staring contest for an hour or so. I came back later and she had a mealworm in her water dish. I pulled it out and moved it in front of her. She was interested but not enough to eat. This morning I found two of the four mealworms missing. Now I'm missing two more. They can't get out of the dish so I'm almost positive she finally ate.

Now I just need to get her to poop in a corner instead of in the middle of the floor.

Haha I was going to say some geckos don't really have a poop corner but more of a poop side, and anything on that side is fair game!:main_laugh:

I'll get her in that corner somehow!

:main_thumbsup: Good news!

F.Y.I. ... They poop wherever they want! :main_laugh: Sometimes that even ends up being the food or water dish.

Much rather have a mealworm in the water dish than poop. Already done the poop in the water with one gecko. I'd like to not repeat that.

I decided to try crickets again last night. This was the end result.

She was eating nothing but mealworms before she came to me in December. Apparently she wanted to try new foods because she was racing around the tank chasing the crickets. I put a dish of mealies inside but she has no interest. I'm going to pick up some crickets again tomorrow and see if I can get her to eat again. This one may be my picky eater.

Picky perhaps, but she's not flat-out denying mealworms. I say that based on the fact that you posted this. I just get this feeling there's a bit more going on here than just a picky eater, like something with her environment. And then again, maybe I'm completely off-base, but I don't think so. :main_huh:

All four sides of her tank are still covered and the temps have been hovering between 92-94.

I don't know why she had a sudden change of appetite but she ate crickets again last night. Still doesn't want mealworms but she ate the crickets. Last night she wasn't charging after them but if they came around her she ate them.

Any ideas what would cause her to suddenly stop wanting mealworms and only eat crickets?

I think that's normal. Mine all change on their likes and dislikes. Gus came to me loving crickets. Now he won't touch them but wolfs down Supers. Just how they are. I would not be concerned unless she doesn't eat at all . . and they even go thru that on occasion.
