u.k.
if one of my girls have been with one of my males and laid a clutch of eggs can i put her with a different male or do you generally keep them with the same male through out the breeding season because of identifying parentage? in other words is there still a possibility the next clutch could be fertilised by the previous male?

hope this makes sense:main_huh: thanks!

I think that one successful copulation only fertilizes 3-4 clutches (this is what I've heard), and so if you wanted to put another male with your female after her third clutch, you could try that. We have actually done this, and we're going to see what happens! We get totally different babies from each male pairing, so we'll know who the father is depending on what comes out ;)

The problem here is that is not 100% certainty or fact. It is an average or an estimation. I have also had females lay 10 clutches from a single breeding as well.

If you want to be 100% certain who the male is that fertilized the eggs, you should only use 1 male.

Very true, we have no idea if we'll start getting babies from the second male or not. We will, however, know the father based on the offspring because one male can only produce normals and mack snows with the female, while the other male can only produce patternless and patternless snows with the female.

That's amazing to get 10 clutches from one single breeding!!

I guess I should add that I completely agree, though - one male per season is the best way to go. We have our reasons for introducing a second male this season, but we don't necessarily plan to do it again.
