this is definitely problematic, and all of my post-secondary institutions expect me capable of leaving monsieur neige-pois at home while i live in a shit dormitory. currently, i have him in a ten gallon; however this is the proposed plan.
55 gallon tank, screened lid, two heat lamps (75 watts), reuse his current heating pad (recommended for 10-20g): will this generate enough heat? or should i be planning on purchasing something else?
i am hoping that the size of the tank will allow for more hides and the ability for my parents to simply purchase two dozen large crickets a week without having to worry that they will die immediately (he kills all of his crickets but only eats about half).
on the humid hide: can i just use large aquarium rocks on the bottom and add some water to it? i don't imagine my family spraying it regularily. currently, i don't keep his humid hide in his cage (poor kid, there wouldn't be any room for him to move), but add it once he gets faded, especially after he has had a nice bath.
personally, i like using the reusable cage liners, it makes me feel better when he misses a cricket (a little extra padding for a headbutt never hurt anyone); however he has a large rock which helps for basking and that rock has a bottom that he likes to try to crawl under, i have it on a ball of paper towels to prevent it from rocking and him getting underneath it. what substrate would you recommend for a fifty-five gallon?
water bowls, which is best?
moreover, i know that my parents will take care of him (though this may be lacking on an every day basis) - is it even a good idea to leave him in such randomized care or, do i try to find him a new home?
don't get me wrong, i love-love-LOVE him and i will be begging whichever university i decide upon to let me bring him, but i do want to do what is best for him.
