Air Flow Opinions needed

I have a Hovabator Thermal Air flow incubator and I am corncerned with temps. Although right now they are fairly stable fluxuating by one degree or two.. I think it is due to the ambient room temp. in my room (duh.. there are holes) the temp is Philly today is 57 and then this weekend it will be in the
30's with chances of snow (which means my room temp will also decline.. drastically I might add)

SOOooo.... My question is, in order to keep inside temps more secure, could I tape up the holes that are located along the bottom of the incubator if I opened the lid every day or two and closely monitored humidity and condensation??? My deli cups have holes in them, and I am thinking maybe I wont pour water in the bottom of the incubator since I am using Superhatch this year as a substrate....

A little help?????

Considering you're up north, I still think it's a very good idea to keep water in the bottom of your incubator. In my experience hatching geckos in Montana and New York, even with adequately moist substrate the air is just so dry at this time of year that unless you keep up the relative humidity in the incubator you run the risk of drying out your eggs.

I don't think taping the vents will make much of a difference in terms of internal temp. I don't think you'll have any problems as long as you keep the incubator at 80F or higher, especially if you're past the first two weeks (the critical period for temperature sex determination leopard geckos). You may have to manually adjust the incubator by giving the wafer a full turn (I can't remember if your model has a fan or not, the model I use has a simple heat wafer) when you're expecting cooler temps. Really all it means is that you'll have to guess what temperature your house will be at and then play with the incubator for a bit until you get the temp right.

Hope this helps!

I never played with this incubator before, you should have seen me reading the directions.. they come with pix!! :main_laugh: I see it clicks on when the temps get higher or lower so I guess I will just stick to the basic.. thanks for your help
