Got to watch Amelia shed for the first time since getting her, when she was just a baby. She came out of her cave tonight super white, and snubbed food. I decided to keep a close eye on her, and stalk her for a bit, since its been so long since I've gotten to watch her shed.

Videos are long, about 25 minutes total. She was having trouble getting it started. Once she got it from behind her head in the second video it went much more smoothly. Poor girl's a little special :p

And part 2

Amelia Shedding Part 2 - YouTube

*If the video's aren't up yet, its because YouTube hates me and takes like 3 hours to do anything. They'll be up soon if they aren't already.

thats realy cool. i think its so cute watching them rub them selves on every thing :3
you should put some stuff in her tank with a difrent texture ie some big rocks. to help with the shed as she seems to get a bit distressed at the start of the second video :)

The problem with putting more things in the tank is that she has such an inability to climb properly that I don't want her get hurt. If I put something in there only whole she's shedding I feel like it would stress her out to the point where she'd be more concerned about this strange new thing in there that she'd more or less ditch the shedding and just start frantically circling. She stresses so easily. I really wanted to physically help her, but I decided just keeping everything where it belonged and the towels flat was a better choice... Could have been wrong, though. She really could have used the help lol

you could always put some dark textured paper around the out side of her sweat hide. your jar thing is compleetly see-through and dosnt offer any security, if you covered the out side with some knobbly paper it would give an extra hiding place and offer a rubbing spot for shedding, two birds with one stone :)
doing somthing like that would be a permanent fixture and she would get used to it quickly because the jar would already smell of her and be less frightening. :)

Shes had the same wet hide (a fish bowl) for a long time. I was thinking next time I change the paper towels in there I think I'll make them go up he sides a little more, for better rubbing. She actually spends most of her time in there. I think she likes the shape of it better than the shape of her cave.

However, I'm going to get her something else for a wet hide because the large opening lets the humidity out too fast. I just have to have the time to shop around for something that would work. I got this green container at the dollar store for Orchid, but it's square. I don't know how Amelia would like that, since she seems to not like the angles in her cave very much. So I think I need to find a similarly sized round container for her. Once I find something more permanent, I will be looking into making it nicer as well as functional.

yeah mine spend most of their time in there too.
there are lots of videos on youtube on how to make your own natural looking hides ect. easy and cheap, many people jusy use old tupperware boxes ect :)
you could make one to suit her needs.

she is a very pretty girl :)

I don't care muh about natural, or even tacky lol All I care about is if its functional, and if it looks good in the proccess, great! :p I certaintly am going to put paper towels up the side so she's got more to rub, as rubbing down on to the floor seems to throw her balance off and stress her out.

If she ever has trouble like this again (like the not being able to reach thing) should I help her at all?

If its causing her stress and the skin is 100% ready to come off then i don't see any harm in helping it along a bit if needed. I do with one of my males (hes a bit special or lazy i can't decide lol). but you'd have to be careful not to stress her out even more.
