Well, a few days ago, my female patternless was looking like she was going to shed. I went to bed and woke up and the cage was totally messed up. Humid hide knocked over, warm hide(which is wooden and pretty heavy) was totally moved, paper towels all screwed up...you get the picture. Well, she seemed to have a really hard time shedding and she had some shed left on her nose. I left it for the day to see if she could get it off on her own. Well, it's not coming off...even with the q-tip and warm water. I rub and rub it and it won't budge :main_angry:. Any ideas of something that will help it come off? Also, do they have a hard time shedding sometimes? Could it be because the temps dropped in her cage a bit? She's right by the door and outside air comes in through the cracks. Maybe the dry cool air made her have a harder time? Just not too sure why she had such a difficult time this time, and why I can't get that stinkin little piece of shed off...:main_rolleyes:

Try using mineral oil, it sticks to the skin better then water does. If she didn't have the proper humidity then yeah that could have been the issue. You'll just have to wait and see if it happens again.

I am by no means an expert but I have heard that some people bathe their leo in shallow luke-warm water for 5-10 minutes to help with left over shed.

Yeah, It's just her nose that has the little shed left on it so I can't soak her. I will try the mineral oil. I have an always moist humid hide in her tank but I think the dry air coming in made her have the hard time shedding.

I think the mineral oil is a good idea. If that doesn't work do you have a deli cup or a tupperware? Put some warm water in it and put the gecko in with the lid on for about 10 minutes (obviously poke air holes). This creates a little "sauna" and the humidity will build up inside the container. This has helped me with a real stubborn shedder a few times.

When I notice shed left on head/nose/toes, I just mist inside the hide box (peat moss inside) and move it over to the warm side where it creates good humidity. Then after they shed all of it, I just move the hide box back to the cool side.

I got it off a few days ago. It was REALLY stuck too. We had to soak with a q-tip then peel it up with tweezers. SHe's such a good girl. She held still and everything like she knew we were trying to get it off.

When I notice my leopards starting to shed, I make sure the humitity hide is moiste and I mist inside the enclosure 2x's a day. I do that because my male Clyde always has a hard shed so it helps along with a warm water soak for 15 minutes.

Glad you got your little one taken care of!

We had HORRIBLE shed difficulties with my little girl that I just lost. For some reason her anorexia seemed to go along with VERY frequent (1-2 times per week), very difficult sheds. We were soaking her 3-4 times a day along with maintaining her humid hide religiously. The vet suggested Shed-Aid (comes in a little spray bottle from Petsmart in the reptile section). This really seemed to work well and is also safe to use around the head/eyes. I always keep some on hand now in case of shed problems. :main_yes:

Thanks, Marcia. I wasn't aware of that. Is that something they might find when doing a necropsy? She was to the vet constantly, and we weren't finding anything 'wrong'. She had x-rays (2 seperate sets) to rule out impaction and egg binding. We lost her 3 nights ago. It was tough. I would like to know what happened, though.

(sorry, not trying to hijack the thread!)
