Well, I've figured out what exactly is drawing the ants in to my house so quickly. Last time it was the crickets, this time it was the crickets. I bought 1,000 crix and the ants just had a fun time with it. I spent an hour transferring crickets from one bin to another, then cleaning out the old bin, kill all the ands, rubbing vaseline all over the bottom of the bin so the ants wouldn't get in, and then kill off the ants...
The good news, ever since I moved the crickets downstairs the ants have gone away from where I keep my small rack and my other reptiles.
Regardless, I HATE ANTS! They are the most annoying insects in the world. I'm glad I dont get fire ants cause good god this just sucks...

I think someone should invent National Ant Hate Day, or nad for short..teehee I made a funny. Seriously we could just have a day where we hate on ants. You see one, you step on it. Maybe that's a little violent, but it's ruining my cricket colony and I just don't think I'll be keeping crix anymore cause of it. Grrrr!

It's only sorta solved. At this point I just need the damned things to leave my crickets alone lol. They'll be back I'm sure though...darned ants...

Too bad you don't have dart frogs...you could have free ant feeders for them. J/K.

I heard ants don't like black pepper, you could put some of that near the area where they are coming in and see if that keeps them out.

Yeah I was googling all sorts of non-toxic remedies. Apparently cinnamin powder has the same affect.
I was actually thinking of getting one of those horned lizards that eats ants and just letting it run loose up there lol. But somehow I think it would clean out the ants and I'd have to give it something else to munch on. I just want to find all the queens (since they are house ants and have a main nest and then satellite nests), and just squash them or relocate them far far far away...if only :p

I have heard/read good things about using coffee grounds
they are supposed to be put outside the thresholds of your doors and anywhere else that you can see ants coming in
good luck-i haven't had too many this year so far but then i have had horse flies-of all things
i ought to get stock on those rolled up fly traps-lol
but at least they work
:D
I hate most bugs-they really BUG Me
We have all sorts of nasties here in the summer-but i hate the sand fleas the most
they are absolutely awful
and i really have to keep up with the Frontline on the 3 dogs or it is just impossible and 3 large dogs equals 60 bucks for the 6 pack for 2 months worth of protection
I have tried every "natural" flea repellent known to man and none of them work on the dogs like the Frontline does
At one point my dogs breath reeked of garlic-LOL
it didn't work
:main_rolleyes:
good luck battling the ants

LOL

So far so good. They are unable to get to the crickets. I liberally applied that vaseline around the bottom and they've yet to even go within 10 feet of it...

Cool
Maybe they don't like the smell of Petroleum Jelly?

There's something about it that they don't like, because they won't cross it for some reason.

If that doesn't end up working, you can take the bin that the crickets are in and put it in another bin partially filled with water, so if the ants try to get to the cricket bin, they will drown.

Yeah I read that somewhre. You have to make sure that there is enough room between the cricket bin and hte other bin though cause the ants will do the land bridge thing if they think they can make it. You gotta lend ants a little credit in that they sure as heck have developed some interesting strategies...
