im thinking of gettin a frog or two, but i know alot are noisy and my family wouldnt appreciate it.

i really like dart frogs, but cant find any prices on them, or info on how noisy they are, the two species of darts i was looking at are D.leucomelas and D. tinctorious. if anybody can help and give me a general idea of price and exactly how much noise they will make it would be a great help.

also if anybody has suggestions on any other species of frogs/tree frogs that might be of interest to me please let me know

I picked up our dart frogs from InFrogneato at NARBC in September. Ours are still babies, but so far, no noise. I almost always see dart frogs at reptile shows. Also Black Jungle has a great site for frogs, terrarium supplies, and instructions. Good luck with your search!

Pretty much all frogs make noise, but it is usually the males. If you can find and properly identify just a couple of females it would be great, but frogs aren't always the easiest animal to sex.

As far as a noisy yet not very loud species you could go with firebelly toads. Granted they are very vocal but are not very loud. If you kept them in say a room that doesn't have a lot of human interaction, say a bedroom for example and close the door they would be alright.

White's are very cool but the males are VERY LOUD. Mine is always waking me up and I can sleep through anything.

I too bought dart frogs (and the set-up) from Infrogneto. They are silent and are in my home office. I highly recommend these jewels.

whats the average cost of them? are they really expensive or fairly cheap?

i just took a look, quite cheap......i think i just might pick one up!

EDIT: i just realised that infrogneato is in CALI, and im all the way on the other side of the country in the sunshine state.....that could be a problem. any places on the east coast that sell these guys?

I know this is kinda late, but I had a Pacman frog when I was younger and I never heard it make any noise.

Loud and funny! It always reminded me of someone rubbing a balloon. I miss my whites!

I had fire belly toads and all of them were male, boy were they vocal. Again, they weren't very loud but quite annoying if you're in the same room. The first time I heard them I though it was a dog outside...

I'd go for the darts, they're pretty and they will only make noise if you have a pair or males. The places that sell them can usually sex them for you, as long as you get adults.

I have a trio of squirrel tree frogs and they are vocal but they are in an enclosure that is completely sealed except for a small eigth inch gap. I barely here them when they call. They are small frogs also.

I don't know too much about frogs, but if you're considering a dart frog, it might be worth considering a Mantella as well. From what [little] I know, they're pretty similar, there's a variety of colors, and they seem to be a bit cheaper than the darts.

Mantellas are smaller though. I guess it really depends on if you're looking for something smaller (Mantellas) or something larger (Darts)....I like the bigger ones myself, they're gorgeous.

Darts can be pretty cheap, $25, $30 for some.

I was actually thinkin of getting a frog for Alexas...ya know, something that she can call hers...but that mommy will take care of LOL

I've been leaning toward a dart...something small and colorful...especially the azure one!

And I know that someone always brings them to the Taylor show

There are many places that will ship (e.g. Saurian.net). D. Leucamelas can be quite loud (it is only the males that call). I have some D. auratus "green and bronze" that are breeding. The males makes a low buzzing call that is gentle and not loud. They are diurnal, so they only call in the daytime. You should be looking at around $35-$40 a frog.

Try this site. It has audio of many dart frog calls.
