I have posted 3 pics of Muschu, our Leopard, under Albums/PatsBrat. On July 15th, during our cross Canada move, the room service attendant at the hotel tried to move Muschu's portable carrier.
We even had a sign on top "DO NOT TOUCH"...yeesh ....She dropped the WHOLE thing, including poor Muschu, and the heavy stone lid for his hidey hole fell on top of him (we assume) from quite a height. The tail was spilt across and fell off about 2 hours later.
Have carefully tried to keep him clean, and his house clean. He is still on paper towel changed every 2 days. He will still let me handle him, but will NOT chase or eats crickets anymore.
Lives on mealworms, but if I dust them or try to add calcium to anything he REFUSES to eat....so have stopped.
He hides in his "cave" almost all the time.
Muschu still has the heat rock he came with (I know, I know, have read how bad they are, but if I take it out he looks and looks for it. I have lasted only a week and put it back, he has me WELL trained) He is not even seeking out heat or basking since this happened ....Am I doing the right thing ? No such thing as a herp vet in our neck of the woods.
Thanks for any input you can give.

After reading through MANY of the posts, I am heading in to the city tonight to get an under tank heater (and if I read correctly, it is for 1/2 the tank area). Also, after all the pet store "reptile" specialists I have talked to, have never heard of the humid / shed box...will need some ideas for that please ...read a few different threads, still a tad confused. And to be honest, getting very overwhelmed.
HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The humid hide is nothing more than a hide with some type of medium to hold water. I suggest paper towels especially where your leo is recovering from a tail injury. I fold a few paper towels & soak them. Then I add water as needed. It's important to keep this on the warm end of your tank as the heat will increase the humidity creating your humid hide.

They need this when they are about to shed. You'll notice this when their overall color fades & almost looks like they are covered with powder. The shedding process is very quick. You'll most likely miss the actual event more often than not. After your leo shed be sure to give him the once over to look for pieces of skin that may not have come off--especially between the or on the toes. If necessary a soak in a shallow dish of warm water will loosen the skin enough to be gently pulled off.

As for the under the tank heater, read the box for specifics on your tank size. Lots of people here use Zoo Med. You'll want to get a thermostat or at least a temp gun so that you can be sure your temperatures behave. As for the heat rock...leave it in the tank if your leo likes it so much, just don't turn it on anymore :)

As for the not eating part, there is a product called Repta-Aid that is used to stimulate hunger. I used it with my 2nd leo & she sprang into action. The pet store should have this too.

I'd also call ahead to the pet store to see if they have a vet that cares for the reptiles. You may be able to have the leo checked at the store or at least get the name of someone qualified. Check online for a local herpatology group or wildlife rescue center who could point you in the right direction.

Good luck & keep us updated to how she's doing.
