Any tips to help me get used to gecko feeders?

Hello everyone :)

I've just entered the world of leopard gecko ownership, and I'm still feeling pretty squeamish around his superworms. I own a corn snake, and the mice have never bothered me, but something about these worms irks me-- just not enough to stop me from getting a gecko, haha. I looked around with the search function, but if this has been asked before, it's phrased in a way I couldn't think to search with.

Anywho, I'm wondering who else had to get over their dislike for the various bugs they feed their geckos. Every day I force myself to go dig around in the superworm's little tub and try to pick one up. I can grab one, but as soon as it struggles, I get the heeby jeebies and drop it, so until I man up or get some tongs, they get moved about with a spoon.

Thanks for any advice you guys can offer :D

LOL. I feel the same. I used to bree dubia roaches, psshh, no problem. Mealworms, nothing. Crickets, nah. Silkworms, meh! Superworms, I can only hold one for 5 seconds. I just hate the way they spin and pulsate when grabbed.

Oh wow, I'm really glad to hear that it was superworm specific for you. I can't wait to get through these (they were free with my gecko. How could I turn down free stuff!?) and move on to something less squirmy :)

Tongs are a minimal investment and very useful. Get some and you will have no need to handle a superworm. The right tool for the job will give you all the confidence you need :)
