Hi peeps :)

Im not sure if this is my own fault or theyre just awkward but my geckos refuse to eat mealworms from dishes :(

I tried Yoshi with a dish when i first got them and he ate 1, then wasnt bothered. I tried leaving them in the dish a few times and they were always still there the next day.

So now i just give them 1 at a time till they dont want anymore.

But it can take me 1-2 hours sometimes to feed them if theyre being awkward so i wanted to try and get them to eat from a dish.

I tried a week ago but they went 2 days without eating so i caved in and they ate normally.

Anyone have tips for getting them to eat out of dishes? Or have i spoilt them and they wont now?

Ive had Yoshi since Feb and Daisy since March so i dunno if its too late to change their routine.

i have always fed mine from a dish and have never had problems, the only tips i can give is 1) dont cave lol. they wont starve themselves. if they're just being buttheads about it, they'll eventually eat them.
2) some people have had success with clear bowls, so the gecko can see them moving without being right on top of it.... (i dunno what you're using now...)

hope i helped :)

Yep, I think it's great to use glass pyrex petri dishes for feeders. They can see them in the dish and then they go for them. They are smooth glass so the worms cannot escape the dish, plus since they are pyrex you can sanitize with super hot water and they are very sturdy. You can get petri dishes from VWR or other lab supply co's and they will last a lifetime and make feeding much easier. Get the smallest size.

We use little clear bowls as well. The geckos can see them moving from the side, and go for them. They are glass and can be sanitized in the dishwasher.

For my new leo I used to use a shallow red lid and she would then associate it with food. Anyways, now I have one of those exo-terra meal worm dishes, designed so that mealworms don't escape. With this new dish she was a little unsure. However, I got round the problem but placing a mealworm on the edge of the dish. She would go up to it, eat it. I did this until she actually summoned the bravery lol to look inside this new dish. Now she knows food is there. So try placing a mealworm on the edge of the dish to encourage him. Although, with my leo, she still needs to be prompted at the moment. But I'm working on it, and I've only had her for just over 3 weeks. I hope this helps :)
