I have a natures spirit incubator setup and some really high end morphs that Im working with and I would be devastated if a blackout occures, I bought myself a Belkin back up power supply, but its a p.o.s. and it doesnt even work after I plugged it in. Does anyone have any inexpensive recommendations for any other product that they have used to succesfully save their incubator, geckos???

Thanks,
Rob

I live in florida and UPSs (battery backups) and generators are a staple of everyone's hurricane prep kit. I have an, "Oneac" Backup that will stay on for about 2 hours once the power goes out- it's not cheap but I need it for a lot of online work i do from home, it also runs on my rack and incubators. So it may not be a bad choice for your whole operation.

It also works as a power conditioner which basically calms the static in the electricity so you don't get spikes that destroy heat tape, laptops, circuits.. etc..

You may want to try a staples or office depot for cheaper options. You'll want to look at the 70-100 $ range for something that will stay on for about 30 minutes..

good luck

I also live in Fl, generators are a must here. In my opinion if you are working with some high end morphs I would suggest getting a small generator. I have a 3000w honda inverter to power all of our gecko racks, incubator and snake racks. I know it might sound like a lot of money, but if you lose power for more than an hour or so and dont have a well insulated incubator then all your eggs could come out wrong especially if you are trying TSD all your eggs. I would rather rely on gas and not some battery. You might some some good used ones in your local paper.

I in Florida as well. I don't breed geckos, but do have corals reefs I must keep going during power failure. We use deep cycle batteries and an inverter.

This isnt really an issue here in the UK, it just doesnt happen. Well not where i live anyhow.
We just had some major flooding though last week (which also doesnt happen!!). Our power was out for 43 hrs and i was out of town. Lost 43 eggs from the incubator (not all leos) a decent monies worth. plus the entire contents of my 8' 360 UK/g hard coral marine reef... Gutted. talking about £15000 here (close to $30000 Us i think).

Like i said these things dont happen just a real freak event. Though i have gone out and bought a generater for £80 that would have kept me going for at least 12hr.
An absolute bargain i reckon, hope i never use it but it cost less than the cost of 1 of my geckos, OR corals OR fish, gotta be worth sitting in a corner 'just in case' in my opinion.

Though that said i would have never have bought one before last week.
Mark.
