Are roaches and silkworms fattening?

My leos are putting on too much weight by eating roaches, to a point that I'm starting to think roaches are more fattening than supers (can't say anything about waxies as I'd never fed them waxies). I have a female that used to weigh around 55-60g, now she is 83g!! Just by eating 1 to 2 appropriate sized roach a day. Is it the puppy food that I'm feeding the roaches that make them so fattening? Or is it simply because the roaches have a higher meat to shell ratio?

What about silkworms? I thought they are high protein and nutritious feeders, but I've also hear people say they're quite fattening.

Roaches and silkworms are very nutritious! Keep in mind that this is the time of year that females need to put on weight... first, to get them through the winter brumation; and second, to assure they have a good fat supply for the beginning of breeding season 6-8 weeks from now.

Ah! That could be it. All 3 of my females are getting HUGE recently, they all broke their previous maximum weight record and have bellys that almost touch ground; and I'm worrying what's going on with them.

I think that mealworms, waxworms and supers are more fattening than roaches. As a rule, most worms have an high fat content because they need a lot of energy to pupate. But for some reason, silkworms seem to break this rule and they are not only less fattening that most insects, but they also are very nutritious. Probably the best feeder insect out there.

Although I haven't seen any table that includes the nutritional value of roaches (I would love to, if anybody knows about one) I've heard that are pretty similar to crickets, but less annoying :)

Definately less annoying! And less scary too. LOL
All these years that I'd been keeping my geckos, I still can't get myself to catch a cricket with my fingers; but with the roaches, I have no problem at all (except for adults)!

When I sautee them in Canola Oil, there's not so much trans-fats, but it gives me terrible wind.
