Are average 5 inch Leopard Geckos big enough to breed? I can't tell the weight of mine so i wanted to know if there big enough.

5" geckos sound like juveniles to me and therefore too young and small to breed.

I agree, unless that 5 incher is a tiny adult O_O But if it was then you shouldn't breed an adult that is only 5 inches, that could be a deformity.

A gecko should be at least 50 grams, if not more, before it is bred.

I don't mean at all to insult you, but you should definitely read up on Leos before you think about breeding them. IMO going in blind is irresponsible and isn't fair to the animals, I'm not exactly a tree hugger, but it doesn't seem right to me. It's not hard to click on some websites or pick up a book and learn what you need to know. As I said, I'm not trying to insult you so don't get me wrong, I just think the animals deserve to be bred by people who know what they're doing.

I know what I'm doing. What average size in length should they be?

Length is not the main factor of breeding, we have told you what is, weight.

I doubt a 5 inch leo is 50 grams, unless it's obese..

And, one more thing, if you knew what you were doing, you would not be asking.

from the looks of your avatar pic. they are no where near breeding size. Also, if one is male and one is female, you should seperate them so they dont breed too early. A female getting pregnant while she's too small can cause SEVERE health issues.

If they are of opposite sexes and sharing the same cage, then please at least put up a divider, k?

You can't stop me from breeding

in this you are correct - we cant stop you from breeding them. But I'm sure you are a responseble person that dont want to risk your geckos health.

I'm glad to read you have bought a book about geckos.

If you're really serious about learning all you can try the library. Before I got my geckos (well all my reptiles) I went and checked out every book the had on the species and read them. Alot of the info was repetitive but I learned much more than I could have found on the web and really quickly. Then when I decided to try breeding my pair for the experience (I'm not a breeder) I checked alot of them out again to refresh my memory.

Plus, the library is free so you get lots and lots of info for nothing. I'm a library pusher. lol

I agree with Alliemac, along with the library, talk to some breeders on the forum, use the search function and find threads, there is A LOT of information out there.

With an Attitude Like that don't expect to get far in this hobby. ;)

Also if your asking what length they should be, you obviously don't know what you are doing. So instead of giving attitude to people who are trying to help you out, how about you suck up your macho pride and listen to people trying to help you and your geckos.

Please talk to and listen to the advice from some experienced breeders. I have learned so much from the ones here on the forum. They don't have secret plans and strategies that they are not sharing with the public, or trying to hold others back from breeding to help themselves. They are concerned about the health of the animals. Also, buy a scale. IMO it is one of the most important tools for tracking the health of your animals.
