Are you using Eco-earth as humid hide medium?

Does anyone notice their geckos have bits of coir medium in their nostrils? I looked at their nostrils carefully yesterday, and noticed half of my geckos have these coco stuff in their nostrils (just small amount, not to the extent that its blocking their nose). It doesn't look like its affecting them breath, or causing them discomfort, but I'm still a bit concerned. I tried using a piece of wet tissue to wipe it off, but didn't work...

If you're using Eco-earth or other brands of coir medium as humid hide substrate, can you check to see if your gecko also has the stuff in their nose?

I've never noticed it, but I'll check when I get a moment. For right now, I'm headed to bed.

I use coir for my female breeders, and moss for my males and non-breeder females.

I use Bed-A-Beast for my females and Paper Towels for my males and future breeder females.

The ones that got dirt in their nose love digging in their hide, I suppose they are using their snout to aid the digging....

I checked all their noses and only found one with dirt in it. It was not much. this girl is a digger, so like you said, probably using her nose to help dig.

Eco-Earth and Bed-A-Beast are virtually the same thing. If they dig they're going to get dirty, just like kids digging in the dirt, or my dog destroying my freshly laid sod in the back yard and then cleaning himself in my pool.

The nice thing about these substrates is that it is natural, won't cause binding and the small amounts you're seeing are negligible. I wouldn't worry about it too much.
