Does anybody have any idea when it gets down to the low 90s out here??? I have lived here for 6 years and have never really paid attention, I just know that it takes forever to cool down.

We are waiting for the weather to get down to at least 94 degrees so that we can receive a shipped gecko. I was thinking it would cool down by September, but it's definitely not cooling down yet. I check the extended forcast very often, and we're still due to have temps over 100 for the next ten days (that's as far extended as they go). Does anyone remember about the time it gets down to the low 90s? Man, I hate the heat!!! :main_thumbsdown:

You are wise to wait... I just lost a pair of juveniles sent here when it was too hot. Never assume the breeders knows what they are doing.. make sure! There are airport to airport options available you could use now, but they are very expensive, especially lately.

While we should see some mid-90s by the end of September, I think every year I live here Arizona is moving closer to the sun. :)

Wrap a test package with those cold packs in it........
I'm assuming overnight shipping FED-EX or whatever.....sender to seal up and ship with cold packs as close to Fed-Ex closing time as possible. delivery next morning by 10:30 AM..................So thermometer in the test package with cold packs............Put it and keep it out side for 24 hours, open it up and see the temp.........That will tell you how safe it will be. Especially if it is coming from a cooler area........then it won't be in 100 degrees as long as the test package..........Warmer temp. on geckos with cold packs may be safer than colder weather, unless heat packs are added...............
May your gecko stay safe under any weather man's umbrella

I have had a gecko shipped here at the end of summer last year. It was held for pick up at the UPS hub here:

UPS CUSTOMER CENTER STAFFED LOCATION
3150 N 31ST AVE
PHOENIX, AZ 85017
800-742-5877

Hours of Operation
Mon-Fri: 8:00am-6:00pm;
Sat, Sun: Closed

When shipping to the hubs the geckos arrive around 9:00 or 9:30 and then they are kept inside the building. The gecko came from Marcia and was packaged very well. A large box with a U-Line cooler in side with the necessary cool packs and She arrived in Perfect condition. Just another option. Other wise probably not till late sept sometime. Which sucks especially if you are waiting for an animal........I will tell you this though I am over the heat now, I sure hope it cools off sooner than later.

I have never had an issue with a gecko or snake shipped to me, or shipped out of Arizona in the summer. An experienced and responsible shipper can easily do this. Most of us do not because there are just too many other variables that are not within our control. If you are going to be home to accept the package it should not be an issue, provided that it is Next Day Air EARLY delivery...IE before noon.

I live in New Mexico and got two geckos when it was in the 100 here.
I told the shipper and he put ice packs in,i also called the UPS hub and was able to pick them up when they opened since they are animals.
They still where very cold when i got them but rather that then too hot.

I am always home since I work from home, but we have had bad experiences with shipping carriers before.. promising to get there before 10:30 and not showing up until 2pm; or being an entire day late altogether :main_no: Thank goodness those times weren't during summer!

But thanks for the help everyone, I will try a test package and see what the temps get to.. if they are too high, we can try getting the animal shipped to the closest hub for pickup :)

Jess-while a "test package' is a great idea-it is still going to cost the minimal in weight in overnight fees

Sept. is just around the corner

I would just try and hold on and wait and spend the $$ that you would have spent on the test package on some gecko supplies
:D

The test package method does not involve shipping the package.

You package up the box as if to ship and put outside on your porch at say 5pm(time most drop off) and retrieve said package from the porch at noon. You then would open the package and read the current temps inside the delicup with the thermometer inside(acting like the animal being shipped).

I shipped geckos to tempe area in july and they were undeliverable so the shipper said. At 5pm the recieving party retrieved the costly shipment and all is well with those animals. Waiting is best, but both the reciever's projects and my rack space suggested shipping them.
