Arm Pit Bubbles?

Has anyone figured out what exactly causes this? I've read up that they're calcium pockets - others fat pockets, etc. One of my geckos has developed the arm pit bubbles behind her two front legs and I've read on some forums that its no big deal - but I cant help but worry. Should I take out her calcium dish and see if they go away? Or just leave it in there?

For me its no big deal.I dont mind them.In fact i wouild rather have them because when they breed they need a ton of calciium.I look at the bubbles the same way your leos draw fat from their tails when they need to.leos draw from the calcium bubbles when they are gravid.

Well that makes me feel better. I was wondering if I was over supplementing cause she's the only one that has them and my other geckos don't. Maybe she's just a better eater and eats more from her calcium dish? I don't think she's over weight and she's about 6-7 months old?

I might have to look into that Repashy Plus, then. What happens if you over sup with d3? I use the vitamins more often than the d3, though.

Over dosing with too much D3 can also cause psudogout, calcium deposits. I recently went thru a calcium bubble with my leo but it was only behind one arm. Does yours look like this:

I was/am also using the repashy calcium plus icb but was also keeping a dish of pure calcium in his tank at the same time (beginners ignorance) but since I removed his calcium and now dust every other feeding the bubble is practically gone. Also T-Rex makes an all in 1 dust too, T-Rex brand leopard gecko dust icb. Looks like this:

Sometimes the Repashy is hard to find in the stores but you can find it on line, the T-rex is usually available in most pet supply stores.

Could be excessive calcium, or it could be too much protein in their diet. I've had the liquid drew out and tested by vet before, turns out to be protein which means the gecko is too well fed and needed to get on a diet. Anything that is given too much can't be a good thing. Try reducing the calcium first, if the bubbles go away, then that means you were supplementing it too much before. If that doesn't help, then perhaps you need to cut back the food.

Okay -- I took pictures! The pictures are set up from when I got them, now and their current weight.

Bubble-girl (Jared):

Her sister (Jensen):

They are both six months old, is it normal for them to weigh this much? I'm going to weigh their brother later today when I get a chance, but he's two months older than them and a lot larger. He doesn't have any bubbles behind his arms or anything, but I wanted to post him too to compare him to these two girls.

The Calcium that I use is Exo-Terra Calcium and thats what stays in a little milk cap in their tanks. The Calcium with D3 that I use is Repti Calcium, which I got a bunch of samples at a show. And the vitamins that I use are Rep-Cal Herptivite with Beta Carotene.

I can't comment on the age/weight thing but from looking at her pictures she looks healthy. Good body perportions, getting a nice tail, and the bubble doesn't look too bad imo. From the pix it looks like the one Eros had was a bit larger than your gals and now just a few weeks later it is completely gone. If you're concerned that it might be a calcium bubble I would suggest trying the repashy or the T-Rex leopard gecko dust mentioned. I really love them and it makes supplimenting so easy, practically fool proof imo. You could try that for a while and see if the bubble disappears, if it does then it was likely the calcium build up, and not excess protein, but if it doesn't then I guess thru processs of elimination, you'd know how to adjust her diet at least.

Well I took out her calcium dish from her tank and hopefully that'll help - but she is a good eater soooo maybe she's munching on too many superworms? She gets roaches too sometimes. They aren't like keeping her from moving around or anything, but they do look like she has boobs when she's walking around.

The post with the pix said 6-ish months 27-ish grams according to the pic with the leo on the scale. Eros wasn't affected by his either. He never slowed down or seemed like it bothered him even when I would poke at it, which wasn't very often. It almost felt like a little water blister under his skin.

Okay so thats good then. I'm sure they'll start eating more when it starts getting warmer again since its pretty cold where I'm at cause winter is coming in. Blah -- cant wait until summer again.
