Avoiding hot hide

I made my own hide a week ago from an ice cream tub and Paper Mache using pva non toxic glue, then used non toxic kids paint to decorate it, then finally covering it in pva and waited till it was rock solid and completely dry, it looks fantastic, the inside of the hide is just the normal ice cream tub plastic. My Leo used it a couple of days then since has either been laying on top of it or next to it..... this might sound weird but is it too hot in there for her?? But then if i had put a normal resin hide it its place surely that would be just as hot?? She is currently using her humid hide a lot more than she did before, she doesnt look like she is going into shed so at a loss with this one?

Any ideas would be a great help

Thanks Charlotte

Obviously, the way to find out is to take the temperature inside the hide. You can do so with either a temp gun or a digital thermometer with a probe that can be put on the floor inside the hide.

I guess also make sure there are no fumes? Or that light isn't shining into the hide during the day?

I have a digital themometer the readings are the same as they normally are and as I said it is covered in paper mache and paint no chance of light getting in there at all, I will check the smell of the tub again but there was no fume smell from it before, will check again and see.

Thanks for your thoughts, greatly appreciated.

Okay then, perhaps she's just in the mood for her humid hide then. One of my geckos spends most days in his humid hide, unless he has lately had a large meal he is trying to digest in the hot hide.

Worked out what it was, when I went to dampen her humid hide I found a couple of eggs so she was nesting make sense now with her lack of wanting to eat. She is back to being in her hot hide now so hopefully all back to normal. thank you for your thoughts
