I haven't been around here in forever *waves*
But my girl, Zoe, is still doing really well :)

Over the past few months I've decided that my current pursuit in a web design degree isn't really want I want to do with my life. So I stuffed a photography class in my schedule to try it out as more than just my obsessive hobby.

Well, I've been loving it so far ^__^ and i really think it's where I want to take my life.
My professor tells me I have the natural talent and that all I need now is to build a portfolio, get some client names on my list and run with it.

I'm still planning to graduate with my web design degree, and since I'm currently employed doing related work to that, I'll probably keep that job and just do photography on the side until I can A) earn enough money to get off my butt B) "hit it big" 8D

Tonight I tried out low key photography and since it was feeding time for Zoe, I figured I could get her to behave while taking some shots, and with it being mostly dark minus a small amount of bounced light, I figured she'd be fine.

after about 10 minutes of chasing her around the set up (my kitchen table with a stack of boxes and some black fabric draped over it) with my camera, she finally got her worm, sat there, and did the satisfied "dat was gud" routine of licking her face.
In that small seconds I was able to shoot my entire project after just about giving up >_<

So my consecutive series of photos (so sorry that it's gigantic):

and then another photo I got at the beginning that I really liked :)

I've been developing a strong relationship with my girl :) She's learning that I'm her source of care and saftey, so she willingly crawls onto my hands if she's out.

Sorry if they made your computer explode from the size :p but I hope you enjoyed them :)

any feedback/critique is encouraged and really appreciated ^__^

and incase you're wondering:
Camera - Nikon D40
Lens - Kit lens (18-55mm)
Lighting - basic desk lamp on one end of the table bouncing off of a sheet of white foam core

Cute shots! I love that tongue. Another thing to take a look at is all of the strange poses leopard geckos have- whether scrunched up in a corner of their tank (supposedly comfortable) or laying with their little arms splayed out behind them. I think it is also great to have a little series like this one you've started showing detail shots and the intricate little fascinations of the gecko's everyday life and body.

I also must say I love how your watermark isn't intrusive. I've seen so many people who have these huge watermarks.... or even small ones and place them smack in the middle of their piece making it nearly impossible to enjoy. There are ways to embed digital watermarks without messing up the view of your work.

I've been struggling as a graphic designer the past year out of school and landed a job in what else but PHOTOGRAPHY. So you never know what you might find... just try to be a well-rounded artist and it will greatly benefit you. For example, many of the designers I went to school with believed they didn't have to have any drawing/illustration skills. I believe everyone should have a basic foundation in things such as drawing from life to know their forms, basic photography, matting to develop hand skills/measurements, ETC.

You go! Keep it up and post more pics for us to see :)
