If you're trying to maximize your colony's production then you should move the beetles as they will eat some of the eggs and babies. If your bedding is fine grain enough you can sift them out. If you're using coarse bedding I don't think there's an easier way to move them other than picking them out of the bedding and placing them in a new container.

Thanks Lisa. I read somewhere that you can lay a damp paper towel gently over the bedding and a majority of the beetles will cling to the towel for water and you just move them. I think I'll try that. From now on I think I'll put my oats in the food processor so they can be sifted.

I haven't tried the paper towel trick. Let me know if it works! Mine do seem to congregate under veggies and leaves. It does make quite a few of them easy to switch but it doesn't seem that enough cling to them to make switching them super easy. I'm still digging and picking a lot.

I put my oats through the food processor this go around. I have oat dust EVERYWHERE!! I think for next time I'm not going to do that and deal with a bit more work picking out beetles and less dust...haha.
