Bad Press!

In the UK reptiles aren't as big, but somehow they still manage to squeeze bad press about them in the papers!
Heres an article in the daily star today Feb 24th 2010.
"Beheaded: Slave kept alive for his benifits"
"TORTURED WITH GIANT LIZARD"
(Now this you can understand if it was something like a 7ft iguana or such)

"A family kept a man as their slave and totured him with a giant lizard before finally beheading him, a court heard yesterday, Michael Gilbert was held for years as his captors helped themselves to his benifits cash it was claimed.
Michael 26, who has special needs, was forced to taunt the Watt family's pet BEARDED DRAGON, which then lashed out at him with his GIANT TAIL."

Now we all know bearded dragons will not attack unless severely provoked, but this dragon was not more then a foot long, including tail...A whip at that age is nothing! and the picture they have of a beardie makes it look huge and menacing.

I can't stand it when people give reptiles bad press like this, soon we will get bans like the US and its all because people don't understand the facination with them.

Gives us such bad press like we are some sort of psychos or something, admittedly it was a terrible thing to have happended to the guy, but why hang up on it was the "giant lizard" who wasn't giant at all, that was a monster, I could understand if it was a big monitor or a iguana.

for people not experienced with reptiles beardies are often considered "huge". but as a little kid i grew up with my grandma's 6ft iguana so almost all lizards seem tiny.

honestly, getting tail whipped by the beardie was probably the least of the torture this guy suffered at the hands of those maniacs. sheesh, i mean i'd rather be tail whipped by the lizard than have my nads set on fire! the fact that the news hangs up on it just shows the sensationalism and bad reporting.
