im a bit confused, do i want thier basking rock to reach temps of 110-115 (not a heat rock, just a normal rock under a heat lamp) or do i want the air above it to reach those temps? cos my habistat dimming stat doesnt reach those temps but without a stat at all the rock heats to 110..........im confused...which is right

you don't want your basking rock reaching 110-115 you want a log or perch at the top of the cage to hit about 105-110 is perfect( in the wild they climb up on fence post and bask) heat rises so if the rock is 110-115 the upper part of the cage will be much hotter also there needs to be a thermo gradient of at least 20 degrees on the opposite end so that it gets to about 80 to 85 ( you probably are ready knew that sorry) so to answer your question yes the air at the top should hit the 110 degrees. not the rock on the bottom of the cage. good luck

Yes eric is quite correct.

If the rock hits 110 degrees your probably going to burn the dragons belly. I have logs perched up on rocks and it seems to hold the heat very well. which happends to be nice in the winter months at night.

Depending on the size of your cage you should have a 'basking' side no warmer than 115 degrees, and a 'cooling' side up and aroung 85 or 90 degrees. all of which are the air temps.
