Okay so I have an odd shape terarium, that I would like to put my little MSS in, I am getting a new female tomorrow, and so I was going to move him out of his 20 long, to put the female in, and move him into this cage, but the thing is, it is shaped real wierd for me to just put paper towels, or repti carpet in, so I was thinking of putting in some bed-a-beast all along the bottom?!? What do you think? Could it cause impaction? I wouldn't be able to put nothing in it. It is made of plastic, and it has a little platform in, I would say it has the bottom surface of like a 15 gallon. I could post pics if you would like, so you know what I am talking about. Any advise would be great!!

The Bed-A-Beast may cause impaction. I would still stick to paper towels. I would just wet the paper towel and then fold it to form the cage bottom. By wetting it it helps it to keep it's shape once it has dried.

Okay thanks, I was thinking the same thing, so I figured I would ask, I will try to wet the paper towels and see what I can do, if a little bit of the plastic is still showing it is no big deal!

Thanks!!

I dont trust bed-a-beast because half the time you find these huge sticks and twigs in their blocks of stuff. One of our leos has eco-earth as a substrate, its cheap and easy to clean and he loves the stuff. None of it gets in his food bowl so he doesnt have a chance ot eat it with his worms.

I dont have a gecko but I use ECO EARTH by zoomed for my treefrogs. It comes in "bricks' 3 to a pack you put a "brick" in a bucket with hot water and bingo it falls apart expands.
It made out of coconut fiber .
I have used it for my treefrogs for 2 yrs no problems. You can let it dry or keep it moist.
Again I dont have a gecko yet and it might not be good for them but you can ask if any gecko owners use it.
My treefrogs 'pass it" the rare times they ingest it .

I used it for my Cane Toad too. But a frogs digestive system is different then that of a gecko. I would not use any type of lose substrate. I had a gecko die from a moss impaction. The moss came from his humid hide so I no longer use it. I just ball up paper towels and place it in the hide, then moisten it for humidity.
