I am putting this down to a vote, becuase i get so many mixed ansours on other forums.
Here it is.

Personally I like tiles. Paper towels and carpet work well too. I pick tile over the others because I think it's easier to clean then carpet, and will practically last for ever. :D

I use slate which isn't tile per say. Its just like free form slate from India and Pakistan. I get it from a local quarry and I use calci-sand as a filler. But than thats for my display tanks. The others get p-towels

I get my tiles at Lowes. I just pick a color that I like and make sure it doesn't have a slick finish. Most Lowes will even cut the tile for you.

Here is what I used as a temporary cage. At that time no one told me not to use the slick tiles. I figured it out though and wound up flipping the tile over.

You can use a UTH or a heat lamp to heat the tile (UTH will probably work best). You can use just about anything (paper towels, sand...etc.) to fill the gaps.

You can adjust the UTH to coincide with the lamp. That may take some time and I wouldn't want to do those types of adjustments with a gecko in the cage.

Do you mind me asking why you want to use a light?

If it's just for night time viewing then you are fine. Just don't leave the light on for hours at a time. If it is for a photo period then just raise the light enough so that it will not heat the cage or use a low wattage bulb.

Well, i was wondering about the heat, that is why i want one.
If you look at my first thread in the general leo part you will see my UTH.
Is THAT good enough to keep the little one warm?

I have all my leos on tile now...I put nonadhesive shelf paper under the tiles to fill up any gaps and put the tile over. Tiki spends most of her day out in the open sunbathing on her tiles...

I have used sand (pet store sold it to us), replaced sand with repticarpet and non adhesive shelf liner and now tile. I like the tile best! I have since removed the piece of shed on her nose since the pic was taken!

Belly heat is more important for leos then ambient air temps are. As long as the ground temps are between 88-92F or 31-33C your leo will be just fine. Jerome had a great suggestion of using a florescent light for the photo period.

Paper Towels, are the best and cheapest bedding. If you only have a few geckos Tile or Repti-Carpet is sufficient.
