Hello Everyone,
I have an adult leopard gecko that is on paper towel right now, but she loves to rip up the paper towel and get stuck under it... now that she is an adult can i put her on crushed english walnut shell, its dust free and has a low risk of impaction. She is fed from a bowl so she won't accidentally get any in her mouth when she is eating.. Will she able to become accustomed to the new bedding after 2 years of paper towel or will she stress out..
Please tell me your thoughts on this

Everything that is sold out there has "LOW RISK OF IMPACTION" on the bag ;) Crushed walnut shells are NOT a good alternative.

If you are ready for a more realistic change, I would continue to stick with a non-particulate substrate such as carpet, or tiles.

i have read a couple of reviews on it and i also read about it in "leopard gecko's for dummies" and they say its safe.. its doesn't stain and she eats from a bowl so i dont see how she could get impacted

I wouldn't put her on the shells. Anything that is loose can cause impaction whether it says "no risk of impaction" right on the package. Always go with paper towels, repti-carpet, or tile. Also the book leopard gecko's for dummies is one of the worst books out there for leos, its filled with incorrect information and looked like they just wanted to make some money off a book. Take it from all of us thats cared for leos for a long time...no loose substrate!
