Hey guys! I haven't posted here in a while, but I though I would share my story on the new Leo I adopted from Petsmart (free). Anyway heres the long long post.
I've had my eye on this little guys for some time now. Every time I went into the store I would check on him right away to see if he was getting any better. This has been two-three weeks at least going on. So I ended up in there on Saturday and the poor thing looked just horrid. I walked over to the cashier and asked to speak with a manager.
The manager came over and I asked about there drooped tail policy. She said they usually wont adopt them out just because of a dropped tail, that there usually has to be something else wrong with them to adopt them out. So she called over an assistant manager and asked what the story was on the little guy. Turns out he just stopped eating. They showed me the papers from the vet and it said he was clean. They had been giving him something called carnivore care (sp?) twice a day ordered by the vet. Anyway, after talking to them about him for a while and getting as much info out of them as i could and telling them what I could do for him, the manager said she would adopt him out to me for free. I was so happy. I filled out the paper work and got the rest of the stuff i needed to make him comfy in his new home and try to nurse him back to health. Here are some pictures of him the day i brought him home and the day after.

When the manager came back with the adoption paper work, she said she had looked him up and that the little one had been there since October. OCTOBER! That means the guy is at least 6 months old. When I got home I measured and weighted him right away. 6 months on and weighing in at 2.8 grams and is a totally length of about 3.5 inches. 2.5" from nose to vent. That is just so sad Sad
After getting the little guy home I gave him a nice warm bath and some slurry mix i whipped up. He immediately started acting much better. wasn't nearly as lethargic and was more alert and wanting to explore. I got his new home all setup and got him settled in. The next day I gave him another bath and some more food. He ate the slurry right up no problems. The same thing for that evening. No problems taking about 5 CCs of slurry down.
So last night I was feeding him some slurry. He was looking sooooooo much better it wasn't funny. Running all over me and trying to get down onto my bed. I decided to find a nice small mealie and see if he would go for it. Boy did he! He seen that thing, locked onto it and starting snapping at it. He ate that one down so i gave him 3 more mealies, but cut them in 1/2 for him as there where a tad bigger than what I would like him to have. Of course the same thing with the next 3... locked right on and snapped at em like a hungry hungry hippo. With a plump little belly I figured I would stop him for over eating and getting an upset tummy and put him back in his cage.
This morning when I woke up I gave him another bath and seen if he wanted any food. Didn't eat a drop of slurry. I just figured he hadn't eating anything solid for so long he was probably pretty stuffed. I put him back and let him do his thing. Checking on him threw out the day I spotted him at his water dish drinking two different times. Was great to see him drinking water on his own.
A few hours ago I went in to check on him and noticed a nice pile in the corner of his hide. Lifted up the lip only to see 3 of the 4 mealies he ate last night. Sad He puked them back up I'm guessing. Was thinking maybe he passed them and just didn't digest them properly... since there was only 3 of the 4 there. I'm not sure exactly what he did, leaning more twords puking them back up, but we will have to see how it goes. He doesn't seem to be having any problems getting around at all. Still as spunky as he has been the last day or so... so maybe it was just too much for him too early. Well have to keep our fingers crossed and wait and see.
He is going into the vet in the next couple of days to get retested for everything. It was PetSmart's vet that said there wasn't anything wrong with him after all.
Anyway thanks for reading this big long story. Ill keep you all posted on his progress. Heres pics again if you didn't click on the link above.
