Beetles

Howdy folks.

I went to feed Iggy last night, opened the door and this massive beetle came running towards me ... I utterly pooped myself!

I know Mealworms will morph into beetles if you leave them long enough, so I assume this was just a mealworm that had got out of the bowl and hidden underneath the repti-carpet or something.

So, when I saw this beetle running at me, I pooped and slammed the door of the vivarium, bit of a subconcious reaction, it then ran away and hid somewhere. My question is, should I leave it in there and see if Iggy or Rex fancy it as a wee change in meal, or could it be harmful to the geckos?

Leave it, or find it ... that is the question.

I'd say go ahead and find it. It won't really do any damage to your geckos, but it also holds next to no nutritional value for them, so there's not much of a reason to leave it in there.

don't worrie they don't bite I breed my own mealies and have alot of them but yes do get it out it could agitate the gecko and you don't want it to die and have something dead in your viv

Not really worried about it biting ... I just have a phobia of black crawly things lol
Hate spiders. Don't particularly like Crickets either, but needs must.

I had a look for the beetle last night but couldn't find it anywhere.
My setup is a bit of a pain, as I've got wood chip substrate underneath the reti-carpet, I used that so that I could create dips and bumps, in the floor level to give the geckos a bit of a more challenging / interesting terrain. No risk of impaction or anything as it is all covered with repti-carpet ... but im sure the beetle could have got underneath and has now burrowed its way into the chips ... either that or Iggy ate it.

Im thinking I might take out all the chips at the weekend, and try and build some steps, and platforms and stuff, so with any luck I'll find it.

I don't like beetles either, though out of curiosity what morph is your gecko, because my gecko in my avatar name is Iggy :)

I've no idea what morph she is ... probably just a norm'?
She's kinda yellow and white, with a wee bit of black.
I'll get a pic over the weekend.

Rex is my other wee lady, she's darker, kinda green and black colour with a bit of yellow, but she's losing the yellow coloring now.
