Behavior/Heating Q

So I recently changed the heating in my setups because I thought the ground temps were too hot. I am using one of the PETCO wall temp thermostats for temp. readings. I just put it on the ground and let it read the ground temp. My ground temp's read above 95 degree's, so i turned off the lamps I had setup. Now with only the UTH it reads about 90-93...What I want to know is, my male leo now spends all of his time on the warm side...he was always in the cool hide when the lamp was on, and my female always spends her time on the warm side too...but i never see em in the moist hide, they were always in there at night...I dunno, just a change in behavior because i got rid of the lamp heat. Wondering if he's just adjusting but he's not even in his hide, just hangin out in the open on the hot spot.

I recommend that you buy a better quality thermometer. Those cheap petco thermometers have a tendancy to give inaccurate readings.
As for their behavior it sounds normal to me. It was probably too hot before.
90-93 is fine if it's reading accurately.

^. yup sounds normal. Both my leos were doing what yours were, mostly in the moist/cool hide. I then lowered my UTH a bit and took out the heat lamp and now there back to normal. :main_thumbsup:

awesome, thanks for the replies :) any suggestions on what type of thermometer to get? i've had trouble understanding how all the probe ones work...or what's best for the price and achieving a relatively accurate result.

Temp guns are the best but pricey. Next best would be one with a probe. All you have to do is place the probe (white part) on the floor where the heat mat is. Keep in mind you get what you pay for so nothing under $15.

I have a Zilla probe style one now it works OK, but I'm looking into temp guns they seem a lot more convenient for checking multiple temps. If you go with the probe style it's easy to use, just tape it to the floor in your warm hide to measure the floor temps.
