hey, ive never had or used one but i work at target and we have a sony cybershot W330 that has 14.1 megapixels, 4x optical zoom, 8x digital zoom, and HD movies capabilities and it is on sale for right around $150, you can get them online at that price too. i thought about picking up one myself since the megapixels are so high and its decently cheap, most of the slr's arent even over 14.1 megapixels :) hope this helps!

hey i made a mistake haha, the W330 doesn't have HD movie recording (just regular quality recording), but the W350 does have 720p HD recording, but it is $170.

Honestly Jake if you're just looking for a good camera you can find some pretty cheap ones if you view reviews and research the camera you're after. It also depends on the person taking the pic... If I give my camera to someone else they can take horriable pics. Or if someone gives me their camera I can take crappy pics.

This are shots from my camera

And I think they look pretty good (I could be wrong), I just have a fuji point and shoot :p

First, Mega-pixels aren't that important anymore. Unless you are printing poster size photos that is... All of the pics I have posted since Feb have been taken with a 10.2 megapixel Nikon D3000.

The best advice I can give you, is go to a camera store and play with all the cameras in your price range.

Wouldn't it matter if you took a picture, such as a head shot of a gecko and then zoomed in and cropped it for a eye shot since you are blowing up the picture?

A higher megapixel count can come in handy if you are trying to get a close up of a small area in a large photo. But, if you either zoom in or move the camera closer, you don't have to worry about it.

Just because camera "A" has, lets say, 15 megapixel count and camera "B" has 15 megapixel count, the images will not be the same size or resolution. It comes down to the sensor in the camera.

Here is a conversation on this very topic.

Just so we are clear, I'm not telling the OP to go out and buy a lower resolution camera. I'm just pointing out that megapixel count is not as important as camera makers want you to think.

In the end, it comes down to the person holding the camera more than it does the camera itself.

yeah i think the best thing anyone can do is go to the store and play with all the cameras there until you find one that will fit your specific needs and style of picture taking, and most places have at least a 60 day return policy, so if you decide on one at the store and bring it home and take pictures in your house or room of your gecko and it looks sub par then you can always take it back :main_thumbsup:
