What is everyone's opinion on the best way to gut-load meal-worms? Some people swear by making their own mix and some use powdered mix.

I've been taking mine out of the bran and putting them into rolled oats for at least a day, then dusting them with Repashy calcium plus before feeding them to the leos.

i breed my own mealworms and have been doing this for about... i dunno 6 or 7 years now? i keep both my worms and beetles each in 16qt tubs on my floor(air holes drilled in the lids for ventilation ofcourse) on oatmeal with large carrots for moisture. I'll occasionally throw a piece of mustard greens in there while i feed my bearded dragons too. I hardly ever have any dead worms or pupae, and my beetles thrive on a THIN layer of oatmeal and large carrots :) my beetles usually live a very long time, too :)

I dust my my oatmeal first and then put the oatmeal into a plastic tub. Huge hole for air.

Mix in some orange fluker cubes.

I've been wondering about those flukers cubes... I know they're supposed to be healthy gut loading stuff as well as the flukers gut load (brown food stuff?), but wouldn't ground up grains, oatmeal, stuff like that and fresh organic veggies be healthier and a higher nutrition content in the long run? No preservatives and such, being as its all organic?

I haven't used the cubes and I doubt their bad but the kale, carrots, apples, and potatoes that I give mine just seem like a better idea - not to mention cheaper since I'm eating them anyhow. Plus having to get them out to give to the buggies also encourages me to eat more fruits and veggies too :)

I'm going to fresh veggies and fruit after I'm done with the cubes. The cubes work great and the meal worms love them. Crickets take too long to eat them. They usually dry out but it's very simple and easy to drop a cube in.
