I got this girl today from backwaterreptiles, she was a lot skinnier than the others I ordered. I noticed she had a cloudy glare over her pupils, they still contract with light, but she walks off edges and is constantly feeling around her with her tongue. Do you think she is blind? If so, how do I get her to take food and gain some weight?

im not a vet but i would say by the looks of the pictures, the cloudiness looks to be on the lense inside the eye because its behind the iris, which could indicate damage for what ever reason. if the cloudiness was on the outside it could just be stuck shed.
leos arnt so smart when it comes to edges though, all of mine regularly think they can fly and throw them selves off things. i also have one that i thought was blind because she feels around with her nose lol but i think shes okay as she still hunts and catches food and looks at me when im talking to her (im mad :p)

have you tried hand feeding her?

It's definitely behind her eye, I can see the cloudiness when her pupils are dilated. Hard to say what happened to her, since she came from a breeder. She doesn't respond to food in front of her and it I hand feed her she misses everytime. It's sad, seeing she's so skinny.

you could try making a slurry out of the bugs to dot on her lips so she can lick it off.
you could always persist with the hand feeding, try bringing the food up to her nose so she can smell it. then just keep trying till she eventually gets it.

How old is she (or how many grams)? If she is still young, then I would "guess" that malnutrition/diet/supplements caused it.

Are both of her eyes cloudy? If so, I would "guess" that it was a natural occuring condition....just in the genetic hand she was dealt?

Lastly, I am curious and want to make a suggestion: Maybe she isn't totally blind? Try to keep her in a dark tub or dark room. I don't know how you would monitor her in the dark, but maybe she is overly sensitive to light?

It looks like she is blind, does she move around old or new obstacles well? Or at all? I'm wondering if she's partially blind. :main_robin:

see, I don't know much about her because I got her from a breeder. She was labeled at 31 grams. She usually stands in one spot looking up, I try to keep her set up the same as best as I can. If I touch her she screams and thrashes around (she does the same if a cricket touches her). Once I manage to get a hold of her, she calms down. I've been hand feeding her and giving her water by hand to make sure she is getting what she needs. Poor thing, I hope she gets better. She has been generously named Nyx (meaning darkness)
