ok I was looking on VMS Herp for the gens of these and couldn't find it. Either I am blind and did not see it or it's not there. SO I was wondering what is crossed to get the "Blizzard" and "Patternles" and why is it so hard to fin a patternless and bliz without something else crossed in it? geez

In fact almost every type of morph I want has some kind of cross in it. Either het or possible het for something. Is there no way to find just a mack snow not het for something or patternless or bliz etc? So much crossing and I want to breed fulls instead I think cause I never see any without something else in them. Look in wanted soon lol cause I will be searching and If you have it I might be buying :p

Well when my rack gets made (and my brother is gona do it for me since I am by far not a carpenter) I am going to be looking for mack snow male and female as well as bell albino male and a Murphy's patternless pair maybe more but have to get them slowly for financial reasons but mack snows will be my first ones I want.

They are both Simple Recessive, meaning to produce a Blizzard or a Patternless; both parents need to at least be heterozygous for the trait.

OK understand that but I guess the question reall yis..How did they GET the Bliz and Patternless to begin with lol. What made them in the beginning? And Snows? I think I read that snows were almost like an accidental find? Just popped up in breeding? And Albinos? Where did they come from as well? We all know that Leos started out Normals. No normals have red eyes or faded color right? like the Albino so how did they get it. I am having a hard time finding these things out. Are they trade secrets that the origional discoverer doesn't want us to know or am I not looking in the right place. I am very interested to know how they came about and what was bred to get certain ones. Does no one breed to get pures anymore? Seems everyone is breeding mixes and just making more mixes and hets. If anyone can answer these questions or point me in the proper direction for the answers would be great! :D

Just get yourself some of these "mixes" and breed them until you seperate out the traits your after (blizzard/snow/patternless) whatever. I guess a lot of the morphs popped up as random mutations

All of the recessive traits happened by accident. they are genetic mutations. murphys patternless and blizzard are mutations that effect pattern. All of the albinos that we have discovered so far are mutations that effect melanin.... the list goes on. point is, its not trade secrets or special crosses or anything, its all an accident on a genetic level. Mack snows are an incomplete trait, but also a genetic mistake. Enigma is a dominate genetic mutation.

plenty of breeders on this forum have "pure" or non-heterozygous morphs...

Pretty much all the variations in leopard geckos came about by random genetic mutations, and by line-breeding. The first high-yellow gecko was probably a genetic mutation, and then they were line bred to re-create the look. Eventually more and more people got into breeding leos and random genetic mutations popped up everywhere and led to the diversity you see today. Think of it much like the evolution of dog breeds. The first domesticated dogs looked much like wolves, and were bred by people and somewhere one was a different color or size and people bred that one to get similar ones etc. and it just caught on and now we have hundreds of very different dog breeds. IF people never started breeding leopard geckos, we would not see anything other than normals, as bright individuals get eaten before normal ones in the wild. It's why you don't see (or rarely do) albino gophers or alligators, etc., in the wild. :) Hope I helped (and got it right).
