"Individuals hatched late in the year may not start laying eggs until April of the following season."

source: Leopard Gecko Breeding

how true is this? so if i have a female gecko hatch on june, she will be able to breed on april next year? that would mean that she is just 10months old by then, wouldn't it be dangerous to breed her that young or is it safe? if she does breed in April, would she still lay the average number of clutches the just like those females that ovulate in january?

Females can be safely bred as young as 9 months if they are up to a good weight by then. If they are under 50g I would hold off breeding them until later in the season or the following year. If they are a bit small I would keep them in a separate rack so they can't smell or hear the males. Bring around males tends to make them ovulate earlier and they tend to stop eating while they ovulate and may not reach a safe size until their second year if they do.
