The site below says that "Male mice can have a musk like smell," and " If you have a single male and a few females, in a cage, they should produce babies every 18 - 28 days. Producing large number of mice is best done with the harem method. (One male to several females). I have found that 2 to 4 females to one male in a standard mouse cage works fine. How many young they produce depends on their environment and breed of mice. Most "pet shop" mice produce small litters of about 3 to 12 babies."

Just google stuff, that's what I do. You can read the whole site.

If you decide to breed mice, your breeders need replaced about every 8 months to keep your litters at a good production. In the house, they'll stink, and not just a little. Garage or shed is a better option. When its too hot or cold they don't breed well. You can easily put up extra pinkies in the freezer. If you have 4 females and 1 male, keep two females to a group and rotate the male, less chance of them fighting or eating babies. When we buy extra feeders, they're cheap in our quantities, about .25 each but have to CO2 and freeze ourselves. Occasionally we need some live to replace breeders or live feeders. $10 to buy your 1.4 group if it includes a couple water bottles would be a decent deal.
