Hello everyone, this is my first post. I have a question about breeding, hope this is the right place to ask.
I have a male rainwater albino het cyclone and am trying to figure what I can / cant beed with him.
I have tried using the calculator but still not sure and I dont want to do the wrong thing. Any advice/ direction to reading material greatly appreciated. Have done google search but still not clear..
Cheers

I am going to tell you before you start breeding I suggest you own your Leo for at least a year, and do a lot of research. Your first year you could end up with 24 hatchlings off of just one female that you have to provide housing, food, vet care and everything else for until they're 15-20g. If you can't sell all your babies then you need to provide all of that for adult Leos. It is a lot of work and very expensive ($600+ year... Cost me more my first year with setups and everything) with almost no profit margin. Only the biggest full time breeders turn a profit. A lot to think about goes into breeding. [emoji4]

Now if you've done your homework and time... You can breed him with almost anything, except there are two things you CAN'T breed him with: Tremper & Bell Albinos. The 3 strands aren't compatible and won't produce albinos if bred together. Mixing strands just muddies genetics that breeders have spent a long time trying to clean up. [emoji4] This includes, RAPTORS, APTORS, RADARS, Embers, Novas, etc. Play around on the calculator and do research to see what you like, as long as it doesn't contain the other albino strains you're good to go.

Also, just so you know things like Blazing Blizzards & Diablo Blancos are almost always Trempers if not specified, so ask to be sure. Make sure you ask about any hets the Leo may carry up front, too. Most breeders disclose up front, but you always want to ask to be sure.

If you want albinos right away you will want another rainwater or at least a Leo het for it. :)

Hi Amy
Thanks for the reply, appreciate you taking the time to respond.
I have had geckos for more than a year, I currently have female: Mack Snow Tremper Albino het Ember, Tug Snow het Ember, Tug Snow het Murphy's Patternless, Tremper Albino and Eclipse (Ember) female and W&Y Mack Snow Tremper Albino het eclipse-raptor All kept as pets.
I bought the male Rainwater around 10 months ago and have decided to breed him hence my question as to suitable female. As you say I need to do a bit more reading.

Glad to hear that you have experience with Leos and aren't jumping into this without thought or experience. All of us at the Forum are happy to help with any questions you may have. I have learned so much in my time on here. :)

It really just depends on the look you are going for, as too what mate to choose for him. Some will need linebreeding and a few seasons to produce the desired morph, but the wait and work are part of the fun. Once you chose a look, we can answer more specific questions as to what specific gecko would be good. :)
