Breeding Question

Just curious is it ok to breed my gecko's now?

My male blizzard is 78 grams a year old, and my female lvpa is 52 grams almost a year old and they both eat well and are healthy, I just wasn't sure if it was ok to do it this late in the year?

She was supposed to have been bred when I bought her but turns out she wasn't and the sores on her back were from a fight with another female she was kept with, so I thought she was gravid but she never laid any eggs, and that's been 2 months ago.

I prefer to wait til they are a year old. However, if she is ovulating and has a good fat reserve - some geckos can be thin at that weight, while others look like Jabba - then there shouldn't be a problem. Getting them to breed this time of year is only a problem in that it's "off season" and aren't as likely to be ovulating - though plenty of breeders go all year with their girls on different cycles.

How can tell if they are ovulating? Looking at the belly right?

Yep, you check out her belly. It's a bright pink spot (or 2) about the size of an eraser and you REALLY can't miss it when you see it. Once you see that, put them together and they should do their thing. I keep them together for a few days to give them plenty of time.

Be careful when trying to determine eggs from fat bodies. It takes a few times to be able to differentiate betwixt the two! When you first see them they will be pink... PINK PINK PINK! Check out some pictures and examine her carefully before deciding! (There is a picture in the "Fun Pics" section of my Photo Gallery.)

These pictures suck my camera doesn't do good unless it's outside, but I marked the area I can see with my own eyes that is pink and almost egg like. She is my sweetest gecko but no way in hell is she going to let me turn her over, and snap a pic. lol

I'm already on it darn camera batteries went dead, so it will be 2 hours for them to charge, it never fails when I'm trying to do something!

The second picture I posted was done using the same method. Stretching them out makes it the most visible, but it's still quite apparent even when they aren't. I don't think flash would wash it out, but trying to get a shot without it might help. So far, I don't see anything.

Finding your first ovulation is a guessing game. You keep guessing "Is THAT it?" ... but the instant you see it for the first time, you'll have zero doubts.

My breeding season just officially began! Aside from my Bell Hybino Egg that hatched, and some Jungle Bells, all of my other females are just beginning! lol

Well I couldn't get anymore pics but I 95% postive she is ovulating, I did get to turn her upside down and we think it's pretty clear to the naked eye, I'm not in a big hurry or anything just curious if it's ok to do it, but then again it seems everyone is dffirent and breed all year long, ill keep yall updated.
