Brumation?

Well...I think I know what's up now, but I'd love some feedback just to be safe.

Kaida, for about the past month I believe, has decided to take up permanent residence in one of her hides. It's her cool hide and stays around room temperature (usually a steady 68 to 72 degrees now), she makes the choice to be here as far as I can tell since I haven't changed anything as far as her set up goes and the warm side stays between 85 and 91 degrees now.

For about the past month she hasn't really moved from inside this hide. She hasn't eaten anything, I'm not even sure she's shed at all. She used to come out some at night, and now she's just constantly in this hide.

She looks fine, I'll remove the side (its one of those magnetic hides) to get a look at her every so often (because I'm paranoid after loosing Leonith) and she's got bright eyes, her hide is bright, and I took her out to weigh her a week or so ago and she's maintaining a steady 59g. So I'm thinking that perhaps she's just decided to do that whole brumation thing.

I think she did this last year, I got her in February and for a month or two she just chilled out in one of her hides, but at that time I thought perhaps that was because she was in a new strange place. She only lost one gram as far as weight went then.

So, from what I've read this sounds like brumation, but I'd love some other opinions.

Yes, she is going into her burmation cycle.
Is she in a spot where she can see the natural day cycles?
My female is doing it too, she is in a room with windows, where as
my 2 males can not see daylight. So, the female is effected but the
males are not.
I offer her food every evening, and sometimes she will accept 2 or 3
crickets, but I dont expect her to eat normal until spring.
They do slow down a bit durring this period. Otherwise, they are
perfectly happy :main_yes:

Yeah I'd say that was brumation, purely because she's not losing weight. If she starts losing weight, that's when to worry. Until then, no worries at all :main_cool3:

my leos are not brumatng but my beardie is. She has not eaten much in about a month in half, I would say she has eaten maybe 3 times since the 1st of NOV.

ah cool, thanks guys

nats: I keep my room pretty dark, but her lamps and such are set on timers so that day and night cycles are simulated, and the hide she's chosen is pretty dark, it's like a den I guess. And as for eating, she had a few mealies and butterworms a few weeks ago but since she hasn't eaten a thing. She seems fine, she looks at me like she's annoyed when I check up on her but other than that I think she's doing good ^^

As I said I think she did this last year, but Leonith never did, so I guess maybe it differs between geckos.

Sturt: yeah that's what I'm keeping my eye on is her weight, but so far so good.

Jenn: that's pretty much what Kaida's doing, she's had like maybe three or four mealies and a butterworm or two since November.

Cool, thanks for the feedback guys, I'll keep an eye on her, but it's nice to know that she's probably just being a normal gecko ^^

Room Temp

What is your room temp.

Does that affect a brumation cycle?

I think my dad set our system to warm if the temp drops below 68 so it's usually between 68 and 72 right now, in the Summer it can get considerably warmer since it's not set to cool until the temps get above 75 or so

So I think that's what she's picked up on, since I've noticed the room temp effect the temps in her tank slightly. That and ever since it started getting kinda cool is when she's chilled out.

I also weighed her again last night and she's still at 59g, I last weighed her two weeks ago.
